Obituary for Donald Joseph Reaver, Sr.
Donald Joseph Reaver, Sr., 74, of Gettysburg, PA passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.
He was born August 24, 1943 in Taneytown, MD the son of the late Sheridan E. and Helen (Myers) Reaver. Don married Marlene Pinkas on August 8, 1964. In addition of his wife he is survived by three daughters; Kimberly A. Wantz and her husband Doug of Littlestown, PA, Christine M. Swartz and her husband Larry of Arendtsville, PA, Karen D. Harner and her husband Kevin “Dolly” of Littlestown, PA, a son, Donald J. Reaver, Jr. and his wife Eleanor of New Oxford, PA. Don was blessed with the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Emily Kress and her husband Syril, Katie Lynne Wantz and her fiance Judah Haas, Caleb Swartz, Jennifer Swartz, Neal Harner and Derek Reaver and great grandchildren; Nittany and Isabella Kress. There is another great grandchild due in October to Derek.
Don was self-employed in construction for most of his lifetime and was always helping family, neighbors and friends with whatever projects needed his expertise. He earned his certification in HVAC and Geo-thermal. Don had later been employed by Glenn Simpson and Son, and Varish Construction. After retirement, he worked part-time at Gettysburg College. His greatest dream came true when he was able to build his T-Bucket, “The Rompin Redskin”, from the ground up. Don enjoyed time spent in his shop, traveling, camping and his precious Schnauzer Willie and the late Max.
Don is also survived by sisters; Judy Ashcroft of East Stroudsburg, PA, Margaret “Peggy” Reese of Hanover, PA, R. Kathryn “Katie” Brown and her husband Clarence “Brownie” of Taneytown, MD, a brother, S. Edward Reaver and his wife Helen of Emmitsburg, MD, sister-in-law, Nancy Reaver of McSherrystown, PA, three aunts and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers; James F. Reaver, Sr., Jerry Reaver, sister, Nancy Reaver and brother-in-law, Robert Reese.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM from Gettysburg Foursquare Church, Middle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Mark Chester officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taneytown, MD. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
