Obituary for George Michael Maifair
George Michael Maifair, 75 of Gardners, PA took the hand of God on Friday, June 8, 2018. Born May 14, 1943 in New York, New York, he was the son of the late George F. & Veronica (Flannelly) Maifair. George is survived by his wife of forty four years, Linda L. (Conaway) Maifair and their son, Eagle Scout George Richard Maifair, Esquire and wife Sammi of Nashville, TN.
George graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, NY in 1961 and earned his degree from York College in 1981 where he was a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. George had served as a disc jockey at radio stations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania for many years before becoming a sales service representative with Inland Container Corp. in Biglerville, PA and later with Tim-Bar Corp. in New Oxford, PA. For more than thirty years, George was an active member and volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America, where he especially enjoyed helping his son and other young men earn their Eagle Scout Award. In scouting, George served as Den Leader, Cub Master, Assistant Scout Master, Troop Committee Chair, member of the District Committee and Eagle Board of Review. He was a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and served on the Harrisburg Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. A recipient of numerous scouting volunteer and leadership awards, he received the St. George Religious Emblem in 2010. A member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, PA, George served as a C.C.D. religion education instructor and CYO basketball coach and received the Dr. Riley Scouting Award. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at the church for several years. In 2008, George received the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award for exemplary citizenship through volunteering. George was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his dog, Annie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2108 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 45 West High St., Gettysburg, PA with Fr. Daniel Mitzel, Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg from 6-8 p.m.
