He was born June 3, 1929 in Daisytown, PA the son of the late John and Mary Gargus. George is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Pat” Evans Gargus.
George was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a lithographer for Hilbert Printing in Trenton, NJ for 30 years until his retirement when he moved to Gettysburg. George was a Licenses Battlefield Guide he also was a volunteer for the Gettysburg National Park. He was a member of Gettysburg Park Watch, the Gettysburg VFW, and Gettysburg American Legion. George enjoyed Civil War history and photography.
In addition to his wife he is survived by children; Steve Gargus and his wife Valerie of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Linda Calehuff and her husband Rob of Hamilton, NJ, Karen Turgyan and her husband Joe of Hamilton, NJ, Barbara Healy and her husband Chris of Honey Brook, PA, Anthony Coniglio of Gettys, PA, Peter Coniglio of Morrisville, PA, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a brother, John Gargus of Rickeyville, PA and his beloved cat, Chester.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lorraine Centino, a brother, Andy Gargus.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 meeting at Monahan Funeral Home at 10:00 AM to proceed to the Evergreen Cemetery for the service at 11:00 AM with Rev Larry Plymire officiating. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 6:00 P M until 8:00 PM with a service at 7:00 PM.
