Obituary for Alfred W. Hetlyn
Alfred W. “Al” Hetlyn, 91 of Fairfield, Pa died Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Gettysburg Hospital. Born January 29, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Simon & Loretta (Borger) Hetlyn. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Keefe Hetlyn. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. After the war, Al served with the Washington, DC Police Department for 25 years and later was a security officer for the Washington, DC Zoo. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield and the Knights of Columbus. During his retirement years in Fairfield, Al worked part-time for Kennies Market in Gettysburg and for the security detail at SpiriTrust Lutheran – Gettysburg Campus. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by a granddaughter, Erika C. Hetlyn and a great granddaughter, Emma T. Hetlyn-Thorne. Al was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Hetlyn, a brother, Frank Hetlyn and a sister, Delores Nuting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road, Fairfield, PA with Fr. Peter DiTomasso, Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10:00-11:00a.m. The family suggests memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
