Obituary for Anne Carolyn Massa Evans
Anne Carolyn Massa Evans, 90, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at her home.
She was born November 29, 1927 on Staten Island, NY, daughter of William and Anne Cassidy Massa. Anne was a graduate of Curtis High School, Staten Island, NY and of Allegheny College, Meadville, PA. It was at Curtis High School that she first met Gilbert Evans, Jr., the man she would marry in 1949 and be with for over 65 years. Anne and Gil were also business partners, with Anne as bookkeeper and accountant for Evans Electric Co. for 17 years.
In 1960 Anne and Gil moved to a Civil War vintage farm located between Gettysburg and Littlestown. They worked many years modernizing and beautifying their farm and Anne especially loved working on landscaping and gardening.
Anne was a member of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church of Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Area Ladies Stock club (GALS) and the Gettysburg Country Club where she played in the Women’s Golf League. Anne volunteered untold hours at the Adams County Library where she also served three terms on the Library Board. Anne loved reading, golf, horses, bridge club, the Gettysburg area and her many friends and family.
Anne is survived by her sister Betty Massa Lennox of Glens Falls, NY; her son G. Glenn Evans and his wife Patricia K. Evans of Gilroy California; her daughter Amy Anne Evans-McClure and her husband Michael McClure; and three grandchildren, Amanda A. Evans, Brian G. Evans, Matthew G. Evans.
Anne will be interred with her husband in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
