Obituary for Annette A. Bennett
Annette A. Bennett of Fairfield, PA went to be with her Savior on September 20, 2018.
She was the widow of Charles H. Bennett, who died July 17, 1961. Born on July 3, 1927 in Barre, VT, she was the daughter of the late Guy C. D. Andrews and Anice (Stiles) Andrews.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her son, Bruce A. Bennett (Joan) of Fairfield, PA, cousin, Harriet Case (Doug) of Stillwater, NY, nephew, Robert S. Andrews, Jr. (Lynn) Catonsville, MD and their children; Valerie Sipes (Nick) with baby Henry of Reisterstown, MD and David Andrews of San Francisco, CA, niece, Mary Ellen Burns (Mike) of Queensberry, NY and their children Christopher Burns (Dorleen) with baby Mva and Tiffany Burch (Derek) and baby Ryder. Also surviving are step-children from a previous marriage: Kerry Rice, Kathy Burden, Jim Burden and Leslie Askew. She was predeceased by her brother, R. S. Andrews, Sr. who died in December of 2017, and a stepson, David Bennett.
Annette was a true patriot and humble servant of God. Her career as a professional secretary in the Pentagon took her to the Chief of Naval Operations from 1966-1987 as executive secretary. She was proud to have worked with past heroes from World War II, Korean War, Navy and Marine pilots along with many of the original 7 and Apollo astronauts. She was a faithful servant at both Knox Presbyterian Church in Falls Church, VA and after moving to Pennsylvania in 2002 at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church until her death. Always present at choir rehearsal, she loved music. She enjoyed singing in the Gettysburg Civic Chorus as well. She was a lifelong member of the DAR and was chaplain for the Gettysburg Chapter. For fun she was in Abe’s Babe’s of the Gettysburg Red Hats. She was active in little theater groups, Arlington and Fairlington Players, as all who knew her acting ability could attest. Mrs. Bennett also loved skiing, golf, bowling and bridge, but especially her cats. Her favorite time was spent with family and close friends where a good time was sure to be had.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2108 at the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church, 1865 Knoxlyn Road, Gettysburg, PA with Revs. Mark Englund-Krieger and Dale Williams, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. and at a reception following the Memorial Service. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
