Obituary for Beatrice Epley Selby
: Beatrice Epley Selby, 98, died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at her home in Gettysburg, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John L. Selby who died in 1995. Born January 24, 1920 on a dairy farm in Littlestown, PA she was the daughter of the late H. Allen “Cap” Epley and Gertrude M. (Lemmon) Epley. Beatrice had one brother, the late Dennis A. Epley of Hanover and one sister, the late Kathryn E. Yingling of Gettysburg. Beatrice was a 1937 graduate of Littlestown High School and attended “Mud College” school in Mounty Joy Township during her elementary years. In her early adult years, she worked as a telephone operator for the United Telephone Company and later as an office secretary for Ralph Halm Insurance Agency in Hanover. She was also a homemaker and loving caregiver over the years for many members of her family. Surviving are her niece Jonquil Yingling Johnson and husband Mack of York, PA and nephews; Carl “Pete” Yingling and wife Nancy of Gettysburg, Larry Epley and wife Maggie of Carlisle, PA, William Epley and wife Joan of Hanover, Robert Epley and wife Linda of Carlisle, and Thomas Epley and wife Judy of Hanover. She was predeceased by a nephew Philip Epley who died in 1967. Beatrice was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Hanover for many years before moving to Gettysburg in 2000. She is currently a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Allwein, officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will follow the funeral service in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers who were with her during the last month. Memorials in Beatrice’s name may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
