Obituary for Bertha M. Byers
Bertha M. Byers, 96, of Gettysburg, PA died Sunday evening, September 16, 2018 at her daughter’s home.
Born March 9, 1922 in Adams County, PA she was the daughter of the late George L. and Bertha M. (Hoffman) Shelleman. She was the wife of the late Merle G. Byers who died April 26, 1999.
Mrs. Byers was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg. She was a life member of the Cashtown Fire Company and the Heidlersburg Fire Company. She was also involved with the York Springs Senior Center.
Bertha is survived by her two daughters, Loretta M. Hoffman, of New Oxford, PA, Lavetta G. Caskey, of Gettysburg, her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Byers, of McKinghtstown, PA, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Merle D. Byers, six siblings, George (Ben) Shelleman, Edgar Shelleman, Goldie Hess, John Shelleman, Grace Turner, and a son-in-law, Robert Hoffman, Sr.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. Burial will be in the Bender’s Church Cemetery, Biglerville, PA.
