Obituary for Betty Jane Warrenfeltz Redding
Betty Jane (Warrenfeltz) Redding, 86, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Gettysburg Hospital.
She was born on February 17, 1931 in Fairfield, PA. She was the daughter of the late Rosie I. (Warrenfeltz) Carey and the grand-daughter of the late John and Anna (Smith) Warrenfeltz. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Redding, Jr. of 62 years. Betty is survived by three daughters, Beverly A. Bishop and Susan M. Barney both of Gettysburg; Marcia L. Daywalt of Fayetteville; two grand-daughters, Jessica L. Irvin and Tara R. Barney; three brothers, Ray M. Carey and John F. Carey, both of Biglerville; Ralph D. Carey of Gettysburg; three sisters, Irene O. Nelson and Judy A. Hoff, both of Gettysburg; and Erma M. McCaulsin of Biglerville. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn L. Redding and a brother, Samuel W. “Bill” Warrenfeltz.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg and attended Biglerville High School. Betty started her working career picking and packing fruit. Then she continued working at Gettysburg Throwing Company (Silk Mill) for about 34 years. After she gave birth to her first child, she was a stay-at-home mom. After the birth of her fourth child, she worked part-time at the Silk Mill. She also worked at L.E. Smith’s and delivered newspapers for Mid-States. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working on her jig-saw puzzles and word-seek books, working on her plastic canvas and teaching her oldest grand-daughter to work with plastic canvas, baking cookies and cakes and canning fruits and vegetables.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 30, 2017 meeting at Monahan Funeral Home and proceeding to St. Francis Xavier for the Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 or the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
