Obituary for Betty L. Laptook
Betty L. (Kirkman) Laptook, age 95 of Fairfield, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Gettysburg Hospital.
Born in Washington, DC on October 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Oliver & Ella May (Walk) Kirkman. Mrs. Laptook was predeceased by her husband, Col. Louis Laptook who died in 1987.
Mrs. Laptook was a graduate of Strayer Business School and the University of Maryland. Mrs. Laptook served with the U.S. Military Intelligence Office in England during World War II. Growing up in Washington, DC, she was very active with the Girl Scouts and was one of two scouts to present flowers to England’s Queen Mother upon her visit to the Unites States. Mrs. Laptook was also a District of Columbia Olympian and was an active Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. She was also very involved with Real Estate, managing shopping centers, commercial properties and was a licensed broker.
Mrs. Laptook is survived by her son, Douglas Laptook and his wife Linda of Fairfield, four granddaughters; Col. Evelyn Laptook, Carrie Ann Fitz, Emily Yeager and Rebecca Laptook, 5 great grandchildren; Elizabeth and Brandon Fitz, Gabriel and Jason Yeager and Ethan Collins. She was predeceased by her sister, Sarah Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 27 East Main St., Fairfield, PA with Rev. Dale Williams, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. and following the services at a luncheon at Savoy Catering Center in Waynesboro, PA.
