Obituary for Betty S. Jones
Betty S. Jones of New Oxford, PA went to be with her Lord July 18, 2017, Born June 15, 1928 in Roanoke County, Virginia to the late Guy Lermond Sisson and Roxie Mattie Simpson Sisson. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years Gratin Ashby Jones of Olney, MD. She was also proceeded in death by her grandson Glenn Tanner of New Oxford, PA.
She was proceeded in death by her brother Thomas Sisson of Roanoke, VA, her sister's, Louise Cate of Baltimore, MD, Rev. Mildred Asbury of Lynchburg, VA, Claudine Chumney of Blackstone,VA Margaret Strickler of Blacksburg, VA, Frances Prentis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is survived by two brother-in-law's Aubrey Chumney of Blackstone, VA., Dennis Jones of Moneta, VA., one sister-in-law Rachel Anderson of Vinton, VA.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Marie Tanner and a son-in-law John H. Tanner, Jr. of New Oxford. PA. She is also survived by her daughter Sandra Sue Edwards of Gettysburg, PA. Grandson Phillip Edwards and daughter-in-law Marianne Edwards two precious great grandchildren Alison Edwards and Austin Edwards of Brick, NJ.
She is also survived by her grandson Andrew Edwards of Littlestown, PA., numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Betty graduated from Bent Mt. High School and Roanoke Business College. She was employed by the VA Hospital of Roanoke Va. And later the C&P telephone Company which became Verizon.
She was a wonderful wife and mother and an excellent homemaker.
She was a dedicated member of the Olney Baptist Church. Over the years she was a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was active in the Ladies Missionary Society, Ladies Sunday School Class, and Prayer Line.
Betty enjoyed being room mother for her daughter's school class' and went on many field trips with them. She was also in the PTA.
The family would like to express their thanks to The Brethren Home Community and the Spirit Trust Lutheran Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, July 24. The viewing will be at 9:00am with the service at 10:00am. Lunch will be served at the Gettysburg Hotel following the service. Burial will be at the Norbeck Cemetary, Olney, MD at 2:30pm.
