Obituary for Beverly A. Shrawder

Beverly (Bev) Anne (Arthurs) Shrawder passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on June 11, 1950, in Dundee, New York to Earl Chester and Mabel E. (Conklin) Arthurs. After graduating from Dundee High School, she went on to complete a cosmetology course before promptly deciding cutting hair wasn’t what she wanted to do for a living, and embarked on a career that spanned several industries.

Bev applied that confidence and gusto to all aspects of her life. After meeting her husband Earl Shrawder while she was a manager at Mobil Chemical Plastics Group (she would appreciate it being mentioned that she was making more than him at the time), they were married on April 26, 1983, and started their family. Their children Samantha, Kristen, Jennifer, and Steven were born, and Bev fulfilled her dream of being a mother.

It could be said that if there was ever a person who loved effortlessly and with every fiber of her being- it was Bev. As a stay-at-home mom, she was the foundation of her family, while simultaneously the shoulder to cry on and keeper of secrets. She administered hugs and kisses at regular intervals so there was never any doubt how much she loved her children. She supported their dreams while doling out advice peppered with life stories. Her kitchen always smelled of a million different recipes, her cooking and baking a physical manifestation of her love for her family. Her smile could light up a room, and her ability to fill a house with warmth and the sound of laughter was her superpower. She welcomed the partners of her children- John, Andrew, Joe, and Visesh into her family and treated them as if they were her own. Celebrated the births of her grandchildren with national holiday level pomp. Simply put, she was the best mom in the world.

However, Bev is not only a mom- she imparted to her daughters the importance of being your own person as well. She loved being outside, in the sunshine in her garden. She filled her house and covered her lawn with plants, celebrated her peonies blooming in the spring, and found joy in every tomato that ripened on her vines. She loved flowers, and carnations especially because they were her mother’s favorite. She felt her happiest living in the country and would tell anyone who would listen that Gettysburg is wonderful, and how she appreciated the quiet, and being able to see the stars. She also was interested in the weather and often would get excited about major weather events, staying glued to the Weather Channel for updates. In her quiet moments after the day was done, Bev loved to relax with a glass of wine in the evenings, while watching her favorite shows like JAG and NCIS.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Shrawder, and her daughters Samantha (Shrawder) Schuster and her husband John Schuster, their children LJ, Beau, and Weston, Kristen (Shrawder) Bombardier and her husband Dr. Andrew Bombardier, Jennifer (Shrawder) Carbaugh and her husband Joe; son Steven Shrawder and his wife Visesh, and their daughters Emelia and Sarah. Also her brothers Richard Arthurs and his wife Ellen, James Arthurs and his wife Kathy, William Arthurs, Clifford Arthurs, and his wife Erin, Earl Arthurs Jr.; sisters Carol Schneider and Audry Morabito.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Chester and Mabel E (Conklin) Arthurs, and her brother, Raymond Arthurs.

All of this to say- Bev loved with her whole heart, and her memory will be cherished by her family forever. To honor her, we ask that you call your mom and tell her you love her. No matter how long we get with them, it is never enough.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
