Obituary for Chad David Sprankle

Chad David Sprankle, 45, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 18, 2024 after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

He was born on August 31, 1978 in Gettysburg, PA to Denice & the late Allen Sprankle. Chad was a loving husband to his wife Ashley, amazing father to his daughter Lily, and perfect dog-dad to his loyal companion, Wyatt. Chad is also survived by his brother Chris, sister-in-law Marcie, along with their children Luke and Jenna and a maternal grandmother, Lottie Pecher. Chad also leaves behind his loving in-laws Russell & Kathleen Greenholt, Kristie Greenholt, Jessie & Paul Moore and their children Allison & Ethan.

Chad was a Fairfield Native who, prior to college, enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and continued his service for 8 years. During that time, he graduated from Shippensburg University with a degree in Criminal Justice. After college, Chad began working as a probation officer and attended the police academy. He was hired as an officer in McSherrystown Borough where he was a loyal officer at the department for roughly 16 years.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed the simple things like a cup of coffee on the deck, a cold beer after a long shift, dive bars, poker games, and good food-especially dessert for breakfast!

Chad was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Cleveland Browns, Boston Red Sox, and Penn State, along with always supporting his daughter Lily on the soccer field or the volleyball court. Chad always had a competitive side, consistently playing sports from grade school all the way through college, and continuing his love for physical fitness through adventure races, 5Ks, trail runs, marathons, and more.

Chad has always been a man of service and was as selfless as they come; to others he was a true moral compass. Chad had a way of connecting with people and establishing bonds with so many. His friendships and relationships with others were unmatched, which was evident during his courageous 3 year battle with MSA. Because of his magnetic personality he was faithfully surrounded by well wishes and friends. There wasn’t a day he didn’t keep a smile on his face and he always maintained a positive outlook with his endless sense of humor.

As time went on, Chad unwaveringly leaned on his faith to carry him through. As Chad continued his fight he always made sure everyone else was taken care of and he truly was

larger than life itself. While there aren’t enough words to truly capture his impact on others, his ‘pay it forward’ approach to life will live in all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

Special thank you to the VNA of Hanover for their endless care and love during this journey.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 1:00 PM from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in McSherrystown, PA with Fr. Dwight Schlaline celebrant. Interment will be in Conewago Chapel Cemetery on the grounds of the Basilica. The family will receive friends at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his honor to Mission MSA (formerly the MSA Coalition) or Sacred Heart Basilica of Hanover.
