Obituary for Col. Jon P. Pensyl
Col. Jon P. Pensyl, 94, formerly of Gettysburg, PA and Fort Valley, GA died Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017 at the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, PA.
Born September 22, 1922 in Altoona, PA he was the son of the late Oscar J. and Mary Mildred (Mickel) Pensyl, Jr.
Col. Pensyl was a Veteran of the United States Air Force retiring in 1977. In the Air Force he was a fighter pilot in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War earning several Air Medals, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart as well as many other service medals. He logged 280 combat missions in three wars, flying P-40s, P-51s, F-86s, RF-101s, F-4s and several other High Performance aircrafts.
He is survived by his daughter, Jody Sieg and her husband Dan, of New Oxford, PA and their son Logan and his wife Justine and their children, Reese and Cain, he is also survived by his son James Pensyl, of Georgia and his sons Michael and Jimmy and his wife Marcia and their daughter, Addyson, in addition he is survived by his special friend, Ann Proto of Florida. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Jon Pensyl, a daughter, Bethe M. Pensyl, his grandson, Lucas Jon Sieg, a sister, Jane Harf, and his cousin, Mildred Snider.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg is in charge of the funeral arrangements and online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
