Obituary for Conrad J. Jiao
Master Sergeant Conrad J. Jiao, United States Army, Retired, 91 of Gettysburg, PA passed away peacefully in his sleep March 5, 2019.
Conrad was born on June 15, 1927 in Iloilo City, Commonwealth of the Philippines the son of the late Salvador and Candeleria Jampil Jiao. Conrad was predeceased by his wife Vi in 2011.
He graduated from Iloilo High School in 1948 where he met his future wife of 55 years, Violeta, whom he married in 1956. Conrad enlisted in the Army in 1953 during the Korean War but the war ended before he completed his training as an Infantryman. He transferred into the Signal Corps where he spent almost 30 years at various locations including assignments to Japan, Korea, the Panama Canal Zone, Vietnam and Germany. His last assignment was to Fort Ritchie, Maryland from which he retired from Active Duty in 1982 and continued to serve as a government contractor until the post closed in 1998. Conrad was an active bowler in his younger years and enjoyed reading in his retirement. We was member of the First Baptist Church of Gettysburg.
He is survived by his son Conrad and his wife Charmaine of Charleston, South Carolina, his grandchildren Alex of Houston, Texas and Veronica of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by younger son Francis of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his 10 siblings.
Funeral service will be held, Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM from the First Baptist Church, Gettysburg with Rev. Carl Harris officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday, March 15 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
