Obituary for Dale R. Smith
Dale R. Smith, 73, Gettysburg, PA died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at The Gardens at Gettysburg.
He was born July 20, 1943 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Mark and Betty McCleaf Smith. Dale is survived by his wife of 26 years, Beth Poist Smith, two daughters; Donna Warner and her husband Todd of Gettysburg, PA, Kelly Smarsh and her husband Tom of Biglerville, PA, a son, Dakota “Cody” Smith of Gettysburg, PA, five grandchildren; Emily Bankert, Nicole Stultz, Ryan Warner, Kyle Smarsh, Allyson Smarsh, four great grandchildren; Kiersten Bankert, Jacob Bankert, Zachary Stultz, Adalyn Smarsh, four brothers; Mark Smith, Edward Smith, Donald Smith, David Smith, three sisters; Sandra Landis, Mary Jane Englebert, Dorothy Nunamaker and a number of nieces and nephews. Dale was predeceased by a brother, Jacob Smith and two sisters; Jane Smith, Ruth Smith.
Dale was a member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Gettysburg High School. He worked part-time for the National Park Service on the building and construction crew. Eventually he started his own business, Dale R. Smith Custom Building, and continued to build custom homes for the next 30 years. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Gettysburg Country Club, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Dale was a member of the Gettysburg VFW, Post #15 and the New Oxford Social Club.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Great Conawago Presbyterian Cemetery, Hunterstown, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday from Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
