Obituary for Daniel "Doc" Hammett
Daniel Edward “Doc” Hammett, 63 of Aspers, PA died Thursday, December 29, 2016 at home with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sherry K. (Cook) Hammett. Born December 29, 1953 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of Dr. James H. Hammett of Fairfield, PA and the late Nancy Jeane (Yant) Hammett.

Doc was a 1971 graduate of Fairfield High School and a 1976 graduate of Penn State University with degrees in Agriculture Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. He was a registered Professional Engineer and had worked for the University of Kentucky, Ross Industries, Durand-Wayland Manufacturing and Sweethart Cup Corp. before starting his own company 26 years ago, Totally Stainless, which he was the CEO at the time of his death. Doc was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Cashtown, PA. He was very proud to have continued the work that Ernie Simpson and Dick Swisher started with refurbishing bicycles and sewing machines for the less fortunate and the Midwest Missions, P. O. Box 56, Chatham, IL 62629, continues this great mission work and Doc’s request was to have memorial contributions made to this organization.

In addition to his wife and father, Doc is survived by his daughter, Abigail A. “Abby” Smith and husband Andy of York Springs, two grandchildren Hunter and Georgia, his step-mother, Ruth W. Hammett of Fairfield, 6 siblings; Dr. James N. Hammett and wife Mary Lou of Fairfield, Rev. David Hammett and wife Kay of Cranston, Rhode Island, Mary Lynn Martin and husband Robert of Orrtanna, PA, Gordon Ley and wife Diane of Fairfield, Mark N. Yant and wife Heather of Weston, FL and D. Scott Yant and wife Cindy of Marianna, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Cashtown, PA with Revs. Austin Chinault and Christina Fidanza, officiating. Interment will be in Flohrs Cemetery, McKnightstown, PA. A Viewing will be held on Friday, January 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA and on Saturday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Online tributes and condolences can be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
