Obituary for Darlene E. Michael
Darlene E. Michael, 81, of Fairfield, passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at SpiriTrust Lutheran of Gettysburg where she has been well taken care of since March.

She was born, Oct. 22, 1935, in Fairfield, daughter of the late James A. Kime and Kathryn L. (Stultz) Kime.

She went to Gettysburg High School in the early 1950s when Fairfield had no high school and graduated from one of the first LPN classes at Hanover Hospital where she worked as a nurse before joining the first nursing staff of then called Gettysburg Lutheran Home. Her nursing career ended at Mt. Manor Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland when she suffered a brain aneurysm which left her a hemiplegic in 1985, weeks before she turned 50. She was an avid reader and TV viewer, enjoyed the plays at Totem Pole and shows at the Majestic, and especially loved the visits from family and friends and wasn’t bashful about expressing her political views.

She is survived by her son, James Michael of Fairfield; sisters, Mary Louise Kneller and husband James of Henderson, TN; Nancy Wenschhof and husband Clyde of Fairfield; Kathleen Orner and life partner Raymond Dubbs of New Oxford; granddaughter Kara Kyle and husband Mike of Media, PA; nephew, James Kneller and wife Becky of Henderson, TN; nieces, Lisa Jeffreys and husband Brian and Renee Kneller of Henderson, TN; Carrie Ramirez and husband Mark of New Oxford; Kimberly Rausch and husband Jason of White Hall, PA; and Jennifer Gallogly and husband Conor of Oak Park, IL. She is also survived by faithful, loving cousins and friends, Joyce Hartley of Gettysburg and Lloyd Stultz of Fairfield and faithful friend Audrey Strausbaugh of Fairfield and numerous extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by nephew Jeffrey Kneller, Henderson, TN.

The family will receive friends at the Monahan Funeral Home, 27 East Main Street, Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the Memorial Celebration of Life immediately following. Interment will be held privately by the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 260 West High Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325, the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 and the Adams County Library, 140 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
