Obituary for Dixie Ann VanDyke
Dixie Ann VanDyke, 67, Gettysburg, PA passed into God’s care on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the York Hospital.
She was born November 22, 1949 in Milton, PA the daughter of the late George Yocum and Shirley Gair Yocum of Gettysburg, PA.
Dixie was a graduate of Milton High School and a 1971 graduate Messiah College in Grantham, PA. In her youth she was involved in Girl Scouts and served as a camp counselor for several years. She was a former member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Milton, PA.
Dixie started her working career as a, Probation and Parole Officer for Adams County, PA in 1971. She also worked at Children and Youth Services in Adams County and was currently employed at Hoffman Homes for Children. She was a very loving and caring person to all she came into contact with.
She touched the lives of many people through her work and also through her music. She played keyboard and was backup and sang in the family band, “The Bruce VanDyke Band”. Dixie was an avid camper and enjoyed camping with her family and dog. She also enjoyed scuba diving. But most of all she was a great mother, wife and daughter. She had many interests, “that’s the way she was”.
Dixie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bruce VanDyke, her mother Shirley, two sons; Matt VanDyke, Jason VanDyke and his wife Carissa, three grandchildren; Colt, Reece, Mason VanDyke. There are also many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends that will miss Dixie. Alife well lived, but far too short.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 North Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
