Donald W. Fair, 92, New Oxford, PA died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Hanover Hospital.
Mr. Fair was born August 31, 1923 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Donald M. and Marie Mindell King Fair. Donald’s wife Ruth Bream Fair died in 2010.
Mr. Fair was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church where he served as congregational council member and volunteer Treasurer for construction projects. Following his move to the Brethren Home, Don became a member of the Faith Community of the Brethren Home. Mr. Fair was a 1941 graduate of Gettysburg High School and a graduate of Thompson’s Technological Institute in York, PA. He also took classes at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and the University of Kansas. Donald was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army in both Europe and the South Pacific. Mr. Fair was employed by the Harrisburg Patriot-News Company for 6 years as a statistician, but for 43 years he was the Controller-Treasurer of the Gettysburg Times retiring in 1995. Mr. Fair was a member of the American Legion Post 0945 in Wormleysburg, PA and was a volunteer Treasurer for the Adams County Habitat for Humanity.
