Obituary for Dora Ruth Thomas Sanders
Dora Ruth Thomas Sanders, 100 of Gettysburg, PA died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 14, 1915 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus & Eva (Eash) Thomas. Dora was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, PA. She had worked for many years at the former Manhattan Restaurant on Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg and for thirteen years worked at the former Criterion Motor Lodge in Gettysburg until her retirement in 1981. Dora loved her family and always looked forward to preparing food for their annual family reunion. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing scrabble with her children and grandchildren. Dora is survived by six children; Brenda E. Wood and husband John of Gettysburg, Richard T. Sanders and wife Joie of Woodsboro, MD, Patricia E. Keffer of Newton Falls, OH, Donald D. Sanders and wife Donna of Orrtanna, PA, Barbara K. Costella and companion Larry Arnold of Aspers, PA and Debra A. Brown and husband Wayne of Roxbury, PA, twenty seven grandchildren, fifty three great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three daughters; Joan F. Leeper, Donna R. Ledbetter and Cathy J. Sanders, and eleven brothers and sisters; Florence Foulk, Eva Shealer, Stoy Thomas, Roy Thomas, Alvin Thomas, Cy Thomas, Mary Bupp, Thelma Thomas, Ann McCurdy, Erma Frew and Susan Knox. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York Street, Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Michael Allwein and Rev. Adam Leeper, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 1-2 PM.
