Obituary for Dorothy B. Ernst
Dorothy B. Ernst, 100, formerly of Arendtsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Village of Laurel Run.

She was born August 14, 1917 in Dillsburg, PA the daughter of the late Milton R. and Edna Elicker Sheaffer. Dorothy’s husband, Donald R. Ernst, to whom she was married for 59 years, died in 1999.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Kay E. Hollabaugh, and her husband, Brad, of Biglerville, PA; and a son, John A. Ernst and wife, Kaye, of Swansea, SC. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ann E. Beatty, in 1995.

Also surviving is a grandson, Bruce A. Hollabaugh, his wife, Amanda; and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Evangeline, and Fineas; a granddaughter, Ellen H. Vranich, her husband Erik, and great-grandchildren Cooper and Claire; a granddaughter, Greta Warner, her husband, James, and great-grandchildren Ann and Aaron (AJ); a step-granddaughter, Susan Bailey; a step-grandson, David Beatty; a step-granddaughter, Toni Cason, and step-great-grandchildren Denning and Spencer; and step-granddaughter, Jan Argoe, and step-great-grandchildren Jessica, Kayce, and Rachel.

Mrs. Ernst was a graduate of Northern High School and graduated from Carlisle Commercial College in 1935. Prior to her marriage, she worked in the office of the Carlisle Giant Foods. After her children were grown, she worked for the Upper Adams School District in the Arendtsville Elementary School cafeteria for many years.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arendtsville, PA, where she was very active. She served as church secretary, was a member of the choir, and was chair of the Altar Guild and Funeral Committee. She also served two terms on church council.

Mrs. Ernst enjoyed travel with her husband, was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and was an avid college football fan. Family was always very important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She celebrated her 100th Birthday with family and friends in August.

A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arendtsville, PA with Rev. Ben Siebert officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday evening, October 22, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Her private interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 N. High Street, Arendtsville, PA 17303.
