Dorothy Roberta Drechsler, 74, was most happy in Carroll Valley, PA, died on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at her home.
She was born November 9, 1949 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late William and Helen Kirkpatrick Drechsler. She married briefly at age 19 to James David Reuter.
Dorothy earned a BA in American Studies from the University of Maryland in Baltimore County in 1971. Finding store management unsatisfying at the newly opened Columbia Mall, she earned a BSN in Nursing from the University of Maryland in 1974. Most of her nursing friends knew her as Dottie (Mrs. Wayne) Bittinger.
Dorothy worked as a nurse in many of the hospitals in Baltimore before becoming a cardiac clinical specialist. She earned her MS in Nursing in 1983 from the University of Maryland. With this Master’s Degree, she taught at several nursing schools in Maryland. In 1991 she went into private practice as an acupuncturist with a Master’s from Traditional Acupuncture Institute (MAC) and National Certification in Acupuncture. Her clients, in Baltimore and Frederick knew her as Dorothy (Mrs. Tom) Burke.
Her greatest joy was her conversion to Catholicism in 1996. She became a parish nurse at St. Mary’s, Fairfield, PA.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Caroline Drechsler of Fairfield, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, 11AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield, PA with Fr. Peter DiTomasso, celebrant. A viewing will take place prior to the Mass beginning at 10AM. Interment will immediately follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fairfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Alley Cat Allies (alleycat.org) or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Rd, Fairfield, PA 17320, (717) 642-8815.
