Obituary for Dorothy Standish Smith
Dorothy Standish Smith, died at the age of 85 at Cross Keys Village -The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.

Dorothy was born in Waco, Texas on March 14, 1931. She graduated from Antioch College where she met her beloved husband Arden K. Smith, who predeceased her in 1992. With a degree in Sociology she has enjoyed various community service positions including Camp Fire Girl Director in Palo Alto, California and work with Legal Services and Community Action Center of Gettysburg, PA in the 1970’s. Her outreach to community members extended far beyond an occupation as she touched many lives along the way in her daily life. She changed her career in the late 1980’s to the world of Finance when she became a Financial Advisor in San Francisco, California. She retired in 2003 and moved back to Gettysburg. She lived in Texas, California, Ohio, Wisconsin and Salzburg, Austria, with special ties to the Bay area in California and Gettysburg, PA.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Sandy Farnsworth and Kerry Martin and husband Daniel both of Gettysburg, two grandchildren, Rebecca Martin Sieg and husband Adam of Biglerville, PA and Travis Martin and wife Jennifer of New Oxford, PA, four great grandchildren, Bryce and Brady Martin and Annabel and Jackson Sieg, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ewing and husband Rob of Hasting, NJ, sister-in-law, Thea Beckett and husband Carter of Santa Fe, NM, brother-in-law Dan Smith and wife Kent of El Cerrito, CA, nephew Morgan Ewing and wife Denise of Westport, CT, niece Caitlin Nemec and husband Jan of Dobbs Ferry, NY, nephew Zachary Smith of California, niece Helen Boyd of Austin, Texas, grand nieces, Annabelle Ewing, Elizabeth Ewing, Ava Nemec, and grand nephews, Tucker Ewing and Bohdan Nemec.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Fairfield Mennonite Church, 201 West Main St., Fairfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Mennonite Central Committee, U.S. 21 South 12th Street, P. O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500 or Johns Hopkins Hospital – ARVD Program, 600 North Wolfe Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21287(important to select ARVD which is specific to research for Dorothy’s grandchildren’s heart condition)
