Obituary for Elinor Ann Tyson Aurand
Elinor Ann Tyson Aurand was born on July 28th, 1928, and died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 30th, in Gettysburg.
She was the daughter of Mary Susanna Siegel Tyson and Rev. Hobart William Tyson of Myerstown, PA. She married The Rev. Charles W. Aurand on October 8, 1949 at the Chapel of the Abiding Presence at Gettysburg Seminary in Gettysburg, PA. Children are Charles T. (Beverly) Aurand of Newberry, South Carolina, Anne Elisabeth (David Keating) of Williamsport, PA, and Susan (John) Burgess of Plano, Texas. She had 4 grandchildren. Elinor is predeceased by two siblings, JoAnn Weber and Dean Tyson.
She received her Bachelor of Arts from Susquehanna University in 1952 and a certification for teaching in 1972 from Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia. She was employed by the Cabell County (WV) Board of Education for 21 years, teaching first and third grades. Elinor was a devoted wife and mother and was dedicated to the education of children, volunteering in the field following her retirement. She was an avid traveler and gardener of flowers and vegetables. She sang on a 1940's radio show as part of The Daughters of the Regiment, had served as a church soloist and was a lover of fine music and opera.
A service of Christian burial will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, PA, at 11:15 AM on Monday, January 8th. Pastor Stephen Herr will preside.
