Obituary for Elson Clair "Jake" Grim
Elson Clair “Jake” Grim, age 82, of Arendtsville, passed away peacefully at home with

his family on October 31, 2017. He is survived by Jane (Longenecker) Grim, his wife of

61 years, his daughters, Beth Williams, Minda Harbaugh, Cathy Rineer, Ann Showers,

and his son, Curt Grim. He also is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Reinecker and

Lois Grim. He was predeceased by his parents, Clair and Mae Grim, his brother, Ronald

Grim and brother-in-law, Lee Reinecker. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11


Jake was the owner and operator of the Arendtsville Planing Mill for 31 years. He

proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea, during the Korean War.

Prior to that and upon graduation from Biglerville High School, he worked in the family

business, Lower’s Country Store in Table Rock. He also served his community as

President of the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Upper

Adams School Board, Adams County Community Foundation, Arendtsville Volunteer

Fire Company, South Mountain Fair Association Board, and other community

organizations. He was also a Mason of the Good Samaritan Lodge Number 336 and a


His greatest joys were spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, woodworking, but

most of all, family. He was a longtime Conewago Conservationist member where he

spent many days enjoying the stream, either fishing or visiting with his friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the

Zion United Church of Christ, Arendtsville. The family will receive friends following the

service at the family home. A private internment will take place prior to the service.
