Obituary for Elyse P. Hasty
Elyse P. Hasty, 96, Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 peacefully at home.
She was born on July 10, 1925 in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of the late Henry Layton Preston and Antoinette Carchet Preston. Elyse was a 1948 graduate of Syracuse University School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse where she met her husband Franklyn, known as Bud, who at the time was a Captain in the USAF.
Upon her husband’s reassignment from Europe in 1967 to Fort Richie, Elyse worked in the Hagerstown, MD area as a private duty nurse until her retirement in 1975. She was always very active in the Blue Ridge Summit Garden Club and enjoyed gardening in and around her home. Elyse was a member of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, and met locally with the Pastor of the Eyler Valley Pentecostal Church. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed ballet, theatre, classical music, piano, swimming, and painting.
Elyse was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Lt. Col. Franklyn IM Hasty (78) in 2003, one son, Matthew L. Hasty (37) in 1994, a sister, Helen Martino (91) of Mendham, NJ in 2018, and a brother, Harry L. Preston (90) of Shingletown, CA in 2019. She is survived by three sons; Mark P. Hasty of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, John L. Hasty of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, Paul G. Hasty of Cascade, MD, grandchildren, Sarah E. Hasty, and Matthew F. Hasty, a sister-in-law, Linda Preston of Shingletown CA, a niece, Janine (Bob) Everts of Needham, MA and a nephew, Dr. Ronnie (Elaine) Martino of Procterville, OH.
