Obituary for Franklin D. Smith, Sr.
Franklin D. Smith, Sr., 81, 164 Heritage Drive, Gettysburg, PA died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
He was born March 27, 1935 in Goshen, VA, the son of the late Annie J. and John R. Smith. Mr. Smith’s wife Ethel M. Smith died in September of 2016.
Franklin served in the US Army. He was a plumber in the Northern Maryland and Central Pennsylvania area for over 50 years. Most recently working with Crouthamel Construction Company. Mr. Smith was a member of the Gettysburg American Legion, the Gettysburg VFW and the Gettysburg Eagles. He enjoyed fishing of all types, and especially “opening day” of trout season. He attended this event over “40 years” and with 3 generations of his family.
Franklin is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Wisotzkey and her husband David of Gettysburg, PA, a son, Franklin D. Smith, Jr. of Gettysburg, PA, five grandchildren; Nikky White, Ryan Smith, Ashley Cresswell, Hunter Smith, Tyler Truan, five great grandchildren; Destinee Smith, Trinity White, Saphira White, Carter Cresswell, Katelyn Harrison, two brothers, Bob Smith of Maryland, Glen Smith of Virginia, and one sister Blanch Fischbach of Virginia.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, with Fr. Daniel Mitzel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 Pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to a favorite charity.
