Obituary for Gail (Graff) Frantz

Gail (Graff) Frantz (nee: Rosenberger), of Fairfield, PA, age 79, died peacefully Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Gettysburg Hospital from breast cancer diagnosed in 2008. Born in Kittanning, PA, she was the daughter of Cleman C. Rosenberger and Edna Geraldine (Pryor) Rosenberger. She was a graduate of Ford City High (1955) and Mt. St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. Gail’s loves were children, education and piano. She was awarded lifetime membership in the Maryland PTSA for volunteer efforts. She was especially instrumental in getting the new Emmitsburg Elementary/Middle School built in the early 1970s and served as the school’s first PTA president. Gail did not embark on a fulltime career during the period in which she was a stay-at-home mother to five children. However, in her senior years, she held positions in the Fairfield Area School District as a homebound, summer school, and substitute teacher, as well as enjoying time as a math tutor. Gail was a member of MENC and NHS. She also established her own, part-time accounting and tax preparation business in her home. Gail volunteered with numerous charities, the last being Faith in Action. However, her greatest joy in life was babysitting generations of family. Her precious time with grandchildren, and for the last five years, great-grandchildren, was what she cherished most and what inspired her right up to the end.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, her special great-Aunt Tootsie (Sara Bovard), twin brother Gary Rosenberger, an infant son, and her beloved son, Jay Graff. She was also predeceased by a step-grandson, Josh, her dear niece Denise, nephew Greg, sister-in-law Peggy Rosenberger, and husbands James Graff and Mark Frantz.
Surviving are daughter-in-law Karen Graff, sons Archie Graff (Shawn) and Edmund Graff (Nicole), daughters Cari Graff Cherry and Geri Duncan (Wayne). Gail will also be missed by thirteen grandchildren: Michael Fink, Justine Graff Gibbon, Elizabeth Fink Rakoski, Steven Duncan, Samantha Fink, Becca Fink, Angie Graff, Amy Duncan-Hyder, Bryan Graff, Blaze Graff, Emily Graff, Zane Graff, Olivia Duncan, and her step-granddaughter, Monica Cherry. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren (soon to be ten), one step-great grandchild, brother Cleman Rosenberger, Jr. (Helen), sister-in-law Colleen, and several nieces and nephews.
Gail is also survived by her extended Zanoli family from her first marriage to Johnny Zanoli. They have always remained a close and special part of her life and the lives of her children.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA, with her nephew Cleman Rosenberger, III officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday January, 13 as well as 11AM Saturday until the beginning of the service at noon. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gail’s favorite charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
