Obituary for Gary P. Truan, Sr.
Gary P. Truan, Sr., 73, Gettysburg, PA passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Gettysburg, PA.
He was born June 26, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of the late Paul Truan and Alice Truan Hall Nickles.
Gary proudly served in the 2nd Force Recon in the United States Marine Corps earning the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in the Vietnam War. He went on to dedicate his life as a New York City Police Officer for 21 years until his retirement in 1991. Later he worked as a Mental Health Worker at Hoffman Homes in Gettysburg, PA. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Gettysburg, PA. His favorite pastimes included Fishing, Coin Collecting, and spending time with his Children/Grandchildren. Gary was also a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Mr. Truan is survived by five children; Gary P. Truan, Jr. of Biglerville, PA, Dawn Blevins and her husband David of Virginia Beach, VA, Sheryl Wilt and her husband Eric of Arendtsville, PA, Ricardo Hernandez and significant other Nichole Moate of Orrtanna, PA, Eric Truan and his significant other, Kate Hutchison of Gettysburg, PA. 13 grandchildren; Mackenzie Truan, Nadia Truan, Alicia Blevins, Jonathan Blevins, Zachary Blevins, Tanner Sanders, Rachel Sanders, Autumn Cool-Hernandez, Ryder Cool-Hernandez, Chase Hernandez, Farah Hernandez, Mary Hernandez and Heather Hernandez. 5 brothers; Robert Truan, Edmund Hall, Jan Hall, Brian Hall and Rory Hall. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Taylor Cool-Hernandez and one brother and fellow marine Richard Truan.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home starting at 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Following the Memorial, friends and Family will be gathering from 8-10 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. 61 N. 5th St. Gettysburg, PA.
