Obituary for George E. Staley
George E. Staley, 82, 99 Zepp Road, Gettysburg, PA died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 8, 1935 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Elliott and Margaret Wetzel Staley. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Faye Reasner Staley.
George was a veteran of the US Army. For many years he was employed as a wireman at Schindler Elevator Co. in Gettysburg. He was a member and past commander of the Gettysburg VFW, and served on the Allied Veterans Honor Guard. George was a licensed Battlefield Guide. He was an avid bowler who in 1973 won the state bowling tournament. George loved to follow his favorite Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved time with his family.
In addition to his wife George is survived by a daughter, Sue Ellen Spangler and her husband Michael of Gettysburg, PA, two grandchildren; Michael Spangler, Jr. and Allison Spangler, a brother, Robert Staley of Gettysburg, PA and a sister, Mary Flohr of Effingham, SC. He was predeceased by a son, David Staley.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Leonard C.
