
Obituary for George J. "Hipp" Hippensteel
George J. “Hipp” or “Pap” Hippensteel, Sr. 87 of Buchanan Valley passed away peacefully at his home on December 24, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.
Born October 21, 1931 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Marie (Barnhart) Hippensteel. He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret “Peg” (Kimple) Hippensteel.
Hipp was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army. He had been employed as a truck driver by the A.D. Frey Trucking Co. of Hanover, PA for many years and most recently for Carl Woerner Hauling of Gettysburg until his retirement in 2012. Hipp was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Orrtanna, PA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Cathy and Judy, a sister, Mary Weaver and her husband Bill and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, George J. “Butch” Hippensteel, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, PA with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro, Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow the Mass in St. Ignatius Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of Hipp’s friends, neighbors, hospice workers and Rev. DiBiccaro for their help during his illness.
