Obituary for Gerard "Jerry" Neiderer
Gerard J. “Jerry” Neiderer, Jr., 67, Gettysburg, PA died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Neiderer was born February 8, 1951 in Hanover, PA the son of the late Gerard J. and Mary Hall Neiderer, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia Conley Neiderer.
Jerry was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. He was a 1969 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and following graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving as a grunt in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He then spent the next 16 years in VMFA 321. Jerry was a finish carpenter working in the Washington area for Donahue Construction Company for 18 years. He later was employed for Knouse Fruit Company as a truck driver for 10 years. He was a life member of the Landis McCleaf Marine Corp. League in Chambersburg, PA, he was a founding member of the Battlefield Detachment Marine Corp. League of Gettysburg, PA, a member of the Gettysburg American Legion, the Gettysburg VFW, the Buchanan Valley Rod and Gun Club, the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, the NRA, and Camp 18 Hunting Group. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children; Michael G. Neiderer and Thomas E. Neiderer both of Hanover, PA, Carrie Ann Freeman, Conley Freeman and his wife Reyna, Christopher Freeman all of Troy, AL. 7 grandchildren; Christian J. Klingler, Brittany Klingler, Rose Freeman, Thierry Freeman, Ben Freeman, Jeb Wells, Josh Wells, 7 brothers and sisters; John Neiderer and his wife Audrey of Gettysburg, PA, Harry Neiderer and his wife Christine of Catonsville, PA, Joseph Neiderer and his wife Peggy of McSherrystown, PA, George Neiderer and his wife Sally of Hanover, PA, Anne Herrick and her husband Joseph of Orrtanna, PA, Rose Kane and her husband Timothy of Orrtanna, PA, Mary Jordan and her husband Dave of Mt. Airy, MD and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro celebrant. Immediately following the Mass interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Sunday, October 21st from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a Vigil Service for the deceased at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the 40 et 8, Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o Patricia Neiderer, 1409 Herr’s Ridge Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
