Obituary for Grace-Jane Newman
Grace-Jane Newman, of Fairfield, PA died peacefully at the age of 89, Tuesday evening, June 26, 2018 at the Paramount Nursing Home, Fayetteville, PA where she was fondly known as Gracie for the last six years of her life.
Born December 8, 1928 in Catasauqua, PA she was the daughter of the late Edwin Thomas and Grace Irene (Snyder) McKeever. She was the wife of William R. Newman, of Fairfield, PA to whom she was married for 65 years.
Grace was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Fairfield where she served on the altar guild. She was a 1952 graduate of Susquehanna University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi sorority. Grace was a teacher in the Fairfield School District for 20 years and a Girl Scout leader for over 10 years. In her free time she enjoyed reading, baking, painting and traveling.
In addition to her husband, Grace is survived by her two daughters, Jane Elizabeth McCalla and her husband Scott, of Ambler, PA, Nancy Miller and her husband Duane, of Gardners, PA, her granddaughter, Krista McCalla, and her nephew, Matthew Shufflebottom, of Tucson, AZ.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 13 E. Main St., Fairfield, PA, with Pastor Beverly Donnella officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of the service Monday morning at the church.
