Obituary for Herman J. Redding, Sr.
Herman J. Redding, Sr., 83 of Gettysburg, PA died Sunday, November 18, 2018.
He was born March 26, 1935 in Gettysburg the son of the late Raymond F. and Helen (Strausbaugh) Redding, Sr. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara A. Redding who died in 2016.
He is survived by his five children, Jane M. Redding of Thurmont, MD, Herman J. Redding, Jr. and his wife Beth of Downingtown, PA, Anthony D. Redding and his wife Barb of Cashtown, PA, William J. Redding of Hanover, PA, and Melissa H. Redding and her fiancé Donald G. Hubbard, Jr. of Gettysburg, PA, three grandchildren, Allison, Nathan, Matthew, two step grandchildren, Mariah and Marlie, 6 step great grandchildren, one sister, Janice Yeary of Sweetwater, TN. He is predeceased by eight siblings, Mary Burroughs, Evelyn Keilholtz, Teresa Irving, Raymond Redding, Jr., Mark Redding, Helena Topper, Patricia Bollinger and Dennis Redding.
Mr. Redding was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he coached youth basketball. He was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School. He served in the Army Reserve from 1957-1963. He worked many jobs including McDermitt’s and Westinghouse. He and his wife were avid square dancers belonging to several groups.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:30 AM from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, High Street, Gettysburg with Fr. John Kuchinski celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, 455 Table Rock Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or Paralyzed Veterans of America, PO Box 919, Wilton, NH 03086.
