Obituary for James A. Entwistle
Mr. James A. Entwistle (Jim), 70 years old, of Gettysburg passed away peacefully at Gettysburg hospital on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Jo Entwistle and their daughters, Julia Retowsky of Gettysburg, Heather Entwistle Roberts of Fairfield, Jamison Entwistle of Gettysburg, and Erin Entwistle Del Balzo of Point of Rocks, Maryland. Jim is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Genna and Crystal Retowsky, Annie, Bailey and Naia Roberts, Finn and Sertyn Entwistle, Dunn and Kash Kessel, Austin and Luke Del Balzo, and two great-granddaughters, Nia and Alia Chavez, all of whom lovingly called him “Pop”. Jim is further survived by four siblings, William Entwistle of Friendship, WI, Catherine Vaughn of Gettysburg, PA, Evelyn Henderson of Blum, TX and Jane Kay of Morris, IL.

Jim was known for his engaging disposition as well as his numerous real estate projects including Entwistle Hall, Tankers Club building, and the Fahnestock Manson/building.

Jim had a way of easily connecting with others no matter their background. He was funny, dependable, hardworking and over the years found himself in the role of a second father figure to several young men within his family and community. Jim was a member and supporter of the Gettysburg Legion, the VFW and thoroughly enjoyed socializing and networking with fellow members. Jim also had strong connections to Illinois where he was born and raised as well as Vinalhaven, Maine where he spent time with family and enjoyed “men’s meetings” at Warren Pier.

Jim was grateful to the local medical community including WellSpan Cancer Center, Christopher Wetzel, M.D., Spirit Trust Lutheran, and Gettysburg Hospital who provided compassionate care throughout his illness.

The family will celebrate Jim and receive friends at their home at 1260 Table Rock Road on Thursday, February 8, from4-8PM. Upon entering the farm, please attend to the parking directions. Interment will be private. Online obituary and condolences available at monhanfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made in the name of James A. Entwistle to the Gettysburg American Legion Post 202 Scholarship Fund.
Family and friends are welcome share a favorite written memory to be memorialized in the family’s memory book on February 8th. As Jim would say, “Just tell’em who you are” and the rest will fall into place.
