Obituary for James Carl Mattson
James Carl Mattson, of Carroll Valley, PA died peacefully at home at the age of 80 on March 22, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 30, 1936 in Erie, PA, son of the late Catherine (Bender) and Dury Mattson. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean E. (Statton) Mattson, Carroll Valley, PA, his daughter, Lisa C. (Mattson) DeCusati and husband Andrew J., Carroll Valley, two grandsons; Joseph DeCusati, Manassas, VA and James DeCusati, Carroll Valley, two brothers; David Mattson and Lawrence Mattson both of Erie, PA, a sister-in-law, Carol (Statton) DiFiori and husband David, Glen Allen, VA and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by a sister, Betty Eckard, two brothers; Donald Mattson and Dury Mattson, Jr. and a stepbrother, Richard Bennett.
He attended Millcreek High School in Erie. Jim was employed as a foreman by Kraft Lumber Co. in Erie for several years, retiring in 1998, and moving to Carroll Valley. He had an avid interest in the Civil War history of this area. Jim enjoyed nature, animals, being outdoors, and reading historical books. He was looking forward to the warm spring weather. His hobbies included building model airplanes, jigsaw puzzles, and photography. He could fix just about everything and was a perfectionist in all he did. As per his wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield, PA. The family suggests memorial donations to an animal rescue shelter of your choice. A special thank you to the Grane Hospice nurses for their excellent care of Jim at home.
