
God’s faithful servant, James P. “Jim” Deardorff, 69 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 after battling many years of health problems. He lived a full life despite this through his wife, children and grandchildren, brother, sisters and extended family. Born January 15, 1954 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of the late Ray &Geraldine (Kimple) Deardorff. Jim leaves behind his wife of fifty years, Joyce D. (Dubbs) Deardorff. Jim retired from the U.S. Naval Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA after which he returned to private subcontracting work from his home until his death. His contributions and integrity to his work for the Navy meant the world to him. He enjoyed music, and with the help from a friend, learned to play his favorite instrument, the steel guitar in his twenties. Jim made many friends while playing in different bands for several years doing what he loved best. Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield, PA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Stephanie Embree of Green Lane, PA, Elizabeth Orth of Gettysburg, and Jimmy Deardorff of Orrtanna, PA, five grandchildren, Brad Embree, Faith Steiner, Bridget, Caylee and Daniel Deardorff, a brother, Richard Deardorff, three sisters, Mary Wyatt, Carol Eichelberger and Jeanne Weber and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Joanne Esham and Marie Trimmer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield, PA with Fr. Peter DiTomasso, Celebrant. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
