James W. “Jim” Gallagher, 77 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Gettysburg Hospital. Born July 11, 1947 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of the late William B. & Mary Lou (Martin) Gallagher. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine F. (Orndorff) Gallagher. He was a graduate of Gettysburg High School, was very active with the Boy Scouts of America for thirty one years, served as a swimming instructor with the American Red Cross for twenty three years and volunteered annually with the local Toys For Tots program. Jim had worked for the Penn Township Police Department, was a former Assistant Chief of Police with the McSherrystown Police Department, served as an auxiliary officer for traffic control with the Gettysburg Police Department and retired after many years of services with Helicopter Applicators of Gettysburg. He was a former member of the Gettysburg Eagles and American Legion Post #202. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James W. “Jamie” Gallagher, Jr. (Cindy) of Gettysburg and Joey W. Gallagher of York Springs, PA, four grandchildren, Tyler (Hannah), Trevor, Toby and Tiffany Gallagher, two great granddaughters, Kali and Timberly and a brother, George M. Gallagher of Gettysburg. Jim was predeceased by a brother, Fred Gallagher. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 20 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 19th from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Friday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adams/Franklin/Hanover Toys For Tots Program, P. O. Box 1431, Hanover, Pa 17331.
