Obituary for Jerome David Keating

Jerome David Keating, Sr., 97, of Gettysburg, PA passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 9, 2024, at his

home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 3, 1926, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Agnes (Coffey) Keating.

He was the husband of the late Patricia (Redman) Keating who passed away August 2, 2010, to whom he

was married 57 years.

Jerome was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II from 1944-1946. In his

twenties he worked as a buyer of men’s clothing for Woodward & Lothrop. In early 1953 he met the

love of his life, Patricia Redman, and they were married in December of that year. Over the years they

welcomed six children into the world and stayed busy raising a loving family.

Jerome later found a passion for real estate when he started a career selling residential real estate with

Hugh T. Peck, in the 1950’s. He moved to Shannon & Luchs, and some years later decided to get his

brokers license and start up his own company. Jerome ran a very successful real estate company,

Keating Realty, Inc., for over 40 years in Frederick County. He specialized in selling land, farms and

developing land which he enjoyed most.

In later years, he enjoyed helping Patricia, his wife, with her antique business and going to auctions and

finding items to sell. Jerome opened a couple of antique booths in the Emmitsburg Antique Mall which

was one of the many hobbies he enjoyed. He loved to paint landscapes with watercolor, liked singing,

recording music, and listening to music. He was most proud of and cherished the time spent with his

family.

Jerome is survived by his five children, Claire Barnett and her husband Richard of Greencastle, PA,

Patricia Snider of Frederick, MD, Jerome Keating, Jr. of Frederick, MD, Teresa Hitt and her husband

Robert of Ellicott City, MD, Michael Keating and his wife Kimberly of Douglasville, GA, his son-in-law

Robert Siess of Damascus, ten grandchildren, Maureen Spessard, Christopher Snider, Jason Hitt,

Samantha Hitt, Robert Hitt, Jr., Thomas Hitt, Matthew Siess, Catherine Siess, Alexis Keating, James

Keating, and six great grandchildren, Zachary Hang, Austin Frazier, Juniper Tegethoff, Phinneas

Tegethoff, Otis Hitt and Wesley Hitt. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Siess, and his

siblings, Joseph Keating, James Keating, Mary McCabe, and Agnes Keating.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lodges of Gettysburg on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 3:00pm
