Obituary for Jerry Charles Marathon
Jerry Charles Marathon was born March 3, 1922 to Italian parents Louis and Antonetta Marathon in Washington, D.C. and for 97 years enjoyed life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend and extraordinary craftsman.
On April 2, 1945, Jerry married the love of his life, Betty Maulden Marathon, of Kannapolis, N.C. They filled their life together raising a family and creating a home building business in Maryland. Through hard work, talent and integrity, Marathon Builders became known for its craftsmanship and custom home building.
Upon retirement, Betty and Jerry resided on the top of a mountain in Fairfield, PA with a beautiful view of the Carroll Valley area. They enjoyed their retired life together for over 35 years until Betty passed away in 2013. In 2016 Jerry found his new home and family of friends in McCormick, SC.
Jerry was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Elizabeth Marathon; his sister and brother-in-law, Frank and Jenny Calcara; his brother-in-law Anthony Jiuliano, and sisters-in-law Jean Maulden and Hilda Boyette. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kathie Marathon, daughter and (granddog), Debora (and Emme) Marathon, granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Atwood, grandson Jeremy Marathon, and great grandson Hunter Marathon.
Jerry left peacefully to be with his Lord the night of May 19, 2019.
