Obituary for John E. Wholey, Jr.
John E. Wholey, Jr., 84, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, August 18, 2017 at the York Hospital after complications from Open Heart Surgery.

Born December 24, 1932 in Baltimore, MD he was the only son of the late John E. and Mary Christina Wholey, Sr. He was the devoted and loving husband of Gloria A. (Towers) Wholey, of Gettysburg to whom he has said he was blessed to be married to for 57 wonderful years.

John was a kind, gentle, and passionate man who enjoyed golfing with his wife and friends and was a tenor in the Hanover Area Barbershop Chorus. When he wasn't singing, golfing, or bowling, you could find him cheering on his favorite teams, the Orioles and the Ravens with his wife and occasionally with their friends. As a Veteran of the United States Army, he proudly served his nation during the Korean War. He worked as an accountant at a number of companies to include the Davidson Chemical Company, PH & H, and AVCARD, Inc. in Towson, MD prior to moving to Gettysburg in 2000.

Mr. Wholey was an extremely loving and proud father to his three daughters, Carol Bishop and her husband Ryan, of Eldersburg, MD, Cheryl Lea and her husband Derek, of Thomson, GA, Deborah McCarthy and her husband Timothy, of Topsfield, MA, He absolutely adored his three grandchildren, Garrett Lavallee, Cameron McCarthy and Serena McCarthy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Oursler, of Brooklyn Park, MD, as well as two sister-in-laws, Virginia Carey of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Lynda and her husband Soloman James of Easton, MD in addition to numerous loving nieces and nephews. A close knit family, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Elizabeth Oursler, Janet Wood, and Mary Myers.

Funeral services for John will be held 4:00 PM, Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of the services Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. Full military honors will be presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Rd., Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
