Obituary for John J. Sherman
John J. Sherman, 94, of Gettysburg, Pa passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Village of Laurel Run.
Born in Hanover, PA on July 15, 1922, he was the son of the late John C. & Goldie (Krumrine) Sherman, He was predeceased by his wife, Jennie Creager Sherman, who died in 1989.
John was a graduate of the Eichelberger High School in Hanover. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Tank Commander with the U. S. Army and General Patton’s 6th Armored Division. After returning from World War II, John owned and operated Sherman’s Radio and TV Store in Hanover for many years, he later moved to the Gettysburg area and operated a construction business that built numerous homes in the Lake Heritage Development. After selling his construction business, he began a 25 year career with Graybill Electric Supply Co. (Tristate) as a sales representative. In retirement, John enjoyed working part-time with Ken Bigham Electric Co. in Gettysburg. He was a member of the Orrtanna United Methodist Church, Gettysburg Eagles, Gettysburg Moose, the former Gettysburg Elks Club, and American Legion Post #202. His hobbies included gardening and woodworking.
John is survived by his step-daughter, Emma Jane Richens of Biglerville, PA, step-son, Ivan Riggeal of Gettysburg, and three step-grandchildren; Greg Riggeal and wife Deb of Biglerville, Vickie Gastley and husband Mike of Fairfield, PA and Jeff Riggeal of Winterhaven, FL.
A graveside funeral service with full military honors provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA with his Pastor, Rev.
