Obituary for John "Jack" Myers
John “Jack” Myers, 68, Gettysburg, PA died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at his home.
He was born October 22, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Robert and Anna Barger Myers. Jack is survived by his wife of 42 years Grace Werkeiser Myers.
Mr. Myers was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School and the University of Scranton. While in college, Jack worked for ARA Food Services at the University of Scranton and following his graduation he was hired. In 1978 he accepted a position with Servomation the food service provide at Gettysburg College which later was renamed Service America. When Gettysburg College decided to take their food service operation in house, they hired Jack to become the Director of Dining Services, a position her held for 25 years. He was a member of the Upper Adams Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow, and in 1985 – 1986 was the “Lion of the Year”. He was a board member of Arc of Adams County for 18 years and was the volunteer for Special Olympics for 25 years. Jack was an avid hockey fan, having season tickets to be the Hershey Bears and the Philadelphia Flyers.
In addition to his wife Jack is survived by a son, David Latham and his wife JoAnne of Hazelton, PA, a daughter, Barbara Latham of Gettysburg, PA, two grandsons; Gary Strohl, Zachary Trash and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Gettysburg College's Christ Chapel. There will be a viewing at the chapel on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Adams County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 3188, Gettysburg, PA 17352.
