Obituary for John M. Jacobs
John Milton Jacobs, 82 of Arendtsville, PA died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Village of Laurel Run.
John was born on September 2, 1933 in Arendtsville, son of the late Clair M. & Golda (Barbour) Jacobs. John owned and operated Jacobs Barber Shop in Arendtsville for over 50 years following his graduation from the Harrisburg Barber School. He also had been employed in the maintenance department and serving as the school’s police chief at the Bermudian Springs School District for 20 years. John was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville serving on church council and was the Head Usher for many years. John served his community throughout his life. He was a life member of the Arendtsville Fire Department and Captain of the Fire Police for 35 years, was Arendtsville’s Mayor from 1974-1990, he served on the Arendtsville Boro Council and as Boro Supervisor for many years. He was a member of AARP #2635, Adams County Law Enforcement Asso., Adams County Volunteer Fireman’s Asso., Adams County Fire Police Asso. John and his wife Creta enjoyed square dancing and attended many local and national square dance festivals, they were members of the Cannonaiders Square Dance Club, the SDSRD Asso. where he was past president and a former representative and Fair Squares Square Dance Club, where he and Creta served many terms as president.
Survivors include his wife, Creta M. (Epley) Jacobs, son, William M. Jacobs and wife Rose of Fairfield, PA, 2 grandsons; Adam Jacobs and wife Kelly and Benjamin Jacobs and wife Carrie, three great grandchildren; Aleha, Lane and Caleb, and a brother, William C. Jacobs of Carlisle, PA. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Keller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville, with Rev. Ben Siebert, officiating .Interment will be in the Greenmount Cemetery, Arendtsville. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 10 at the church. The family suggests memorials can be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 309, Arendtsville, PA 17303 or the Arendtsville Fire Department, P.O. Box 482, Arendtsville, PA 17303.
