John R. Van Der Cruyssen, 62, of Cascade, MD died suddenly, February 13, 2023 at his home.
Born November 27, 1960 in Lake Worth, FL he was the son of the late Jon and Emmy Van Der Cruyssen. He was the loving husband of Marguerite “Peggy” (Paul) Van Der Cruyssen to whom he was married to for 28 years.
Mr. Van Der Cruyssen was an active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge Summit, PA where he served as President of Parish Council and in charge of fundraising. John was passionate, and part of OBR (Operation BBQ Relief), a group of volunteers which go into disaster stricken areas, from hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., and cook hot meals for those in need. He volunteered and deployed to assist when he could. John served as President of the Blue Ridge Summit Library. As a hobby, he and his family had a Competition BBQ Team, “Cruzen 2 Q”, and also did catering. Additionally, John assisted his wife with St. Rita’s Women’s Society events and the Blue Ridge Garden Club events. He was currently employed by Watertronics Irrigation where he was a regional sales manager for the last 10 years. He also was a member of the Knight of Columbus, Fairfield Chapter. John was a supporter of BSA Troop 2 and the Scouting program, he was a Scout Leader and very instrumental in assisting Patrick in becoming an Eagle Scout.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons, John Patrick Van Der Cruyssen, of Baltimore, MD, Robert Chase Van Der Cruyssen, of Hagerstown, MD, and a sister, Julie Zinzel and her husband Leonard, of Lake Worth, FL.
A reception in celebration John’s life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at St. Rita’s Parish Hall, 13219 Monterey Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, PA. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Monahan Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
