Obituary for John W. Ellefson
John W. Ellefson, 90, Gettysburg, PA died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his home.
He was born April 6, 1927 in Ellwood City, PA, he was the son of John and Roweine Karch Ellefson. John is survived by his wife of 67 years Ann Miller Ellefson.
John was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army. He was a graduate of Geneva College and the University of Pittsburgh. He continued post graduate studies at eight other colleges and universities.
Mr. Ellefson was employed for 37 years as an elementary teacher and principal with New Castle Area Schools in Pennsylvania and Lewiston-Porter Central Schools in New York. Prior to that, he was employed by National Tube Company and Armstrong Cork Company.
John was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Trustee and teacher. He was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church since moving to Gettysburg in 2010.

Mr. Ellefson is survived by a daughter, Marianne McFadden and her husband Tom, a son, John A. Ellefson and his wife Jennifer, four grandchildren; Kate McFadden, Ben McFadden, Will Ellefson, Chris Ellefson, and a sister, Ellen Barjuca. John was predeceased by two sisters; Malzina Saunders and Roweine Rice.
A Memorial service will be held, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Ellwood City, PA. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
