Obituary for Joseph R. Scheer
Joseph R. Scheer, 82, of Fairfield, PA died Friday morning, January 25, 2019 at the York Hospital.
Born February 22, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Robert and Winifred (Farrell) Scheer. He was the husband of Margaret “Peg” (Satterlee) Scheer, of Fairfield, PA to whom he was married to for 50 years.
Mr. Scheer was a lifelong, dedicated teacher who began his career in the Catholic Diocese of Philadelphia. This was followed byteaching positions in the New Jersey and Maryland (North Hagerstown High School) school systems as a social studies and Latin instructor. He was a member of the Gettysburg College Political Science Department (1967-1974). He obtained degrees from St. Charles Seminary (Philadelphia) and the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his wife Joseph is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Scheer, of Longmont, CO, Jennifer Scheer-Tussing, of Bellingham, WA, Katherine Scheer, of Ft. Collins, CO, his six grandchildren, Caitlin, Bain, Heilan, Eyouel, Willa Rose, River, his sister, Dolores Martine, his four brothers, Robert Scheer, David Scheer, Edward Scheer, Richard Scheer, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Anthony’s, 16150 St. Anthony Rd., Emmitsburg, MD. The Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, PA is in charge of the funeral arrangements and online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
