Obituary for Judith A. Shober
Judith A. “Judy” Shober, 74, 11 Crossland Tail, Fairfield, PA died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the York Hospital.
Judy was born September 13, 1942 in Washington, DC the daughter of the late Thomas and Patricia Harris. Judy is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Walter C. Shober.
Judy was a graduate of Wheaton High School and early in her career was employed with the U.S Department of Navy until leaving in 1964 to raise a family. Then, in 1985 she started a second career at the Calvert Group, an investment firm, rising through the ranks to become Vice President – Director of Human Resources before retiring in 2000. After her retirement, Judy and her husband enjoyed traveling, both overseas and in the United States where they camped in 49 of the 50 states. Judy and Walt were very active civic volunteers, several days a week they helped aboard the SS John W. Brown, an operational World War II Liberty ship in Baltimore, MD, the Fairfield School System and the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, PA. Judy enjoyed bowling but most of all spending time with her family. Those who knew her always admired her warm, welcoming and outgoing personality, always able to connect with whomever she was interacting with.
In addition to her husband, Judy is survived by a daughter, Susan A. Shober of Gaithersburg, MD a son, Steven W. Shober of Greenville, RI, a brother, James Harris of Gettysburg, PA, two sisters; Joan Boehm of Gettysburg, PA and Janice Seward of Seaford, VA.
There will be a viewing at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA on Friday, September 30th from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment and service will be private at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Target Community and Educational Services, Inc., 111 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
