Obituary for Kenneth R. Miller
Kenneth R. Miller, 84, 24 Montclair Road, Gettysburg, PA died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg, PA.
He was born June 13, 1933 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Paul N. and Alice Forsythe Miller. Mr. Miller’s wife, Shirley Chronister Miller died in 2005.
Mr. Miller was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, PA. He graduated from Gettysburg High School and then enlisted in the US Army stationed in Germany as an MP. Following his service, Ken became a heavy equipment mechanic first with PennDOT, then with Schuchart’s in Hanover, Manahan Equipment on the Biglerville Road, Maitland Brothers in Littlestown, PA, Superior Concrete in Frederick, MD, Jacoby Transportation, Carl Woerner Trucking, and Richard Weidner in Gettysburg, PA, and finally Hulcher’s Train Recovery Service, Gettysburg, PA. In his early years he raced cars at various tracks in the area. From 1972 until 1985 Mr. Miller and his wife help raise over 100 foster children. He was a member of the Gettysburg American Legion. Ken enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.
Mr. Miller is survived by a son, Chad Miller of Gettysburg, PA, a daughter, Monica Wright and her husband David of Gettysburg, PA, 6 grandchildren; Michael Lawver, Gina Lawver, Stephanie Wright, Shannon Rennhack, Lori Wright, Amanda Wright, 10 great grandchildren; Trever Crawford, Bailee Gochenour, Parker Crawford, Joshua Moyer, Blaine Weaver, Mia Crawford, Mackenzie Lawver, Delaney Koontz, Bryce Lawver, Braelyn Henry, a sister, Carolyn McElwain of Gettysburg, PA. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie Leister and two brothers; Richard Miller, Joseph Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, High Street, Gettysburg, PA. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
